Local Apple fans hoping to get their hands on a new iPhone 12 have been left in the lurch with no information about a local launch of the new smartphones.
In the US the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro was available for pre-order from 16th October with devices becoming available on 23rd October. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has been available for pre-order since 6th November with devices available since 13th November.
But as the 18th November has dawned in South Africa there is no word on the iPhone 12 series being available locally.
Calling the iStore Hotline and speaking to a sales agent did present us with a bit more information.
The agent told us that there is no launch date set as yet however we were told that the handsets might be available at the end of the month.
This should be taken with a lump of salt as a sales agent isn’t privy to the information at the top of a supply chain so we may or may not see the iPhone 12 at the end of November. This should also not be taken as an official statement from iStore.
After many attempts to get in touch with iStore directly we were finally able to get an answer but that answer was, “Unfortunately we don’t have a confirmed SA launch date for iPhone 12”.
Doing some investigating online doesn’t turn up much information other than it’s not likely to happen in November. As new countries release the iPhone 12 the information becomes publicly available and very quickly gets added to release dates lists.
What do we know? We know that every iPhone release happens on a Friday around the world so we can assume it will be the same in South Africa.
So far release date have been published up to an including 27 November and South Africa is not on that list.
In the past iStore have announced the iPhone release date on a Friday morning the week before the iPhone launch.
Could South Africa launch the iPhone 12 on the 27 November? We can still have hope …
